DAVID BECKHAM WARMING UP IN NEW ZEALAND

David Beckham and his LA Galaxy team mates were doing a little warm up training session today in Auckland, the temperature was about 20 degrees today which does not justify so much layers of clothes for a training session, I definitely prefer the rugby players!!!! The LA Galaxy will play an exhibition match on saturday. As much as playing for the Galaxy is fun and convenient to like Los Angeles, a professional soccer player still needs to play ... like real games from time to time, so in J

Whose leak is it anyway Gordon?

How times change. A minister rapidly promoted by Gordon Brown is a former Treasury civil servant who was once prime suspect in a leak inquiry. Government whip Helen Goodman wrote a secret report that embarrassed the former Conservative government when it fell into the hands of Gordon Brown, then shadow chancellor. The curious leak of the report - Goodman says she was cleared by her former bosses - is being dragged up by Whitehall officials because it shows how dramatically the Prime Minister'

Confirmation

Last year I blogged about my recurrent fear that Mt Taranaki - or, rather, the summit of Mt Taranaki - does not really exist. Everytime I had gotten close enough to take a peek at the peak it had been covered in a turban of dirty clouds. I wasn't sure whether Taranaki's recalcitrance was due to an Olympian haughtiness or a odd sort of modesty, but I could understand the paranoia behind the decision by a couple of artists to institute permanent CCTV surveillance of the great mountain. During

Did Gordon promote a leaker?

Gordon is already on the back foot over his previous links to leakers. But here's a new curiosity about his past connection to Treasury insiders. It turns out that Government whip Helen Goodman was a former Treasury civil servant who was - wait for it - once a prime suspect in a leak inquiry. Ms Goodman wrote a secret report that embarassed the former Tory government when it fell into the hands of the then Shadow Chancellor, one G Brown. The leak of the report - and Ms Goodman says she was

Day 3 - Bohemian Rhapsody

Today was Boho, which wasn't as difficult as I had thought - there were a few outfit combinations that were calling my name. It IS a difficult look though to bring to work but I think I managed...before leaving the apartment, I asked my boy if I looked like a hippie. "Yeah, kinda" was his response and was good enough for me.Amethyst and rope necklace - Express (I think...I bought it in 2001 and this was a great excuse to wear it again) Ring - awesome jewelry store in BarcelonaShell earrings - from a kiosk

Elton John hangs with Billy Joel, Mark Ronson

What could Billy Joel possibly do to follow up his Barack Obama extravaganza with Bruce Springsteen? How does a planned two year tour with Elton John sound? As first alluded to during an appearance on The View last month, the piano legends will soon join forces for a world tour designed to bring fans some fun-loving melodies, while saving a couple extra bucks. “It’s two people for the price of one…our ticket prices are the same as you’d look anyone else, but there’s two of us. In this day and a

APPT Sydney: Hot Seet burning up the table

There will be a new APPT Grand Final champion in 2008 after last year’s winner Grant Levy bowed out just before the dinner break. The PokerStars Sponsored player’s stack was below attack from the opening hand and he made his last stand with pocket sevens against K-J. A king in the window had Levy collecting his personals and heading for the door with wife Sharon. But the heirs apparent are emerging from the pack. One of the region’s rising stars, Nathanael Seet, has been steadily moving up t

Small world

Am flying up to Auckland at 11 am today, but went to the Airport early so my flatmate could drop me off and use the car to receive around. As I sit down at a table in the Koru Club, the guy opposite me informs me I haven’t posted since 6.45 am this morning, and he has been hitting the refresh key! Incidentally there will be a posting drought from tardy Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, as will be on Great Barrier Island again. I have to say I adore that place - it is a great location to receive awa

Social butterfly

December 4, 2008 This has been me, lately. My little wings are getting a really good workout. December is always insanely busy for me. My diary is quite literally bulging with Christmas parties and end-of-year functions. Not to mention the long list of must-do’s which need, er, doing. ~~~~ Last Friday I had my department Christmas party (we have our every-Staff Christmas party next Friday, but I’m not going to that one. look, I can say ‘no’ sometimes). Anyway, I spent last Friday evening at Mikano

Gratitude

I’m now back in Toronto after three months of traveling. We’ve just passed Thanksgiving day last week and the holiday weekend, and as I’ve been unpacking and starting to catch up on my work I’ve been feeling reflective. The progression of holidays at this time of year, when the sun retreats and the darkness looms, is structured for looking inwards. As we move from the Autumnal Equinox to the Winter Equinox, we are taken deeper down into the tunnel of our possess life, encouraged to reflect on it i

The new Telecom

John Drinnan in the Herald looks at the new Telecom: Telecommunications industry watchdog Ernie Newman likes the new, higher profile. He was especially impressed by a newspaper advertisement apologising to customers for disruptions to the broadband service Yahoo!Xtra in downtown Auckland on Friday night. It featured a signed photograph of Reynolds. Yes a good move. Telecom advertising had been as pervasive as ever but it had kept a low corporate profile since the Telecommunications Act 2006

Pick It Like Beckham

Apparently the saying “Like dad, like son” even holds true when examining the Beckham boys and their hot fox of a papasita. Sometimes when you can’t find a tissue, a finger is just as reliable… and when you dig just a little bit deeper…. often times, you can successfully locate that slimy, sticky gold. C’mon people…we every pick our noses, right? But when you are a celebrity…you never quite know when your most private habit becomes public. Yesterday Papa Fox David was caught picking
